Decision 2492: An Upset On The Horizon?
April 8th, 2492, Cocoon Station, Grant Jones
Seven days ago, polls projected Anthony Bancroft as the virtual victor of the Lunite Elections for Governor, there was no doubt in anyone's minds that the conservative "old blood" approach to Lunite Society would prevail in the end. Wayne Thomas Russell, Bancroft's opponent, didn't have good prospects: He's perceived as an outsider, and his ideas are considered to be radical among influential elite organizations on Luna Colony, but that has changed.
As we previously reported, a mysterious leak by a hacker simply known by their handle of "Tengu", exposed communication between operators in Luna Colony on the eve of the Jericho V Fragment crashing on Luna Colony, not only was the Governor not on Luna Colony at the moment of crisis, but there was a list revealed to have included only a handful of Lunite Citizens that would have been evacuated, leaving most of Luna Colony's elite to fend for themselves.
This revelation has delivered a powerful blow to Bancroft's efforts that could end up in an upsetting victory for Wayne Thomas Russell. As we are two days away from the elections, the latest polls show that Anthony Bancroft is still leading with a very thin advantage of 43% of the preferences over Wayne Thomas Russell, whose support has ballooned in the past few days with an astonishing 42.5% of the preferences, with 14.5% of the eligible voters still on the fence.
"I always knew that Bancroft was a rat" says Lucrezia Giancarlo-Borgia, whose support only days ago was for Bancroft "The Governor forgets himself, and forgets the organizations and individuals who poured billions of Sol Credits into his administration, maybe it's time for certain information to come to light and get the attention of New Geneva". Giancarlo-Borgia's anger is not without reason, at the time of the leak, the stock of the Borgia Conglomerate took a severe hit with a 14% loss and with several investors withdrawing from their board.
"This only supports what we have been saying for a long time: Bancroft is corrupt, he has to go, and it's time for a new approach for Luna Colony" says Guillermo Alejandro Espinoza-Del Toro, whose new DayDream Holovid "The Hellish Boy And His Unlikely Friends" saw a 88% increase in revenue on DayDream devices throughout the Sol Colony after his initial statements on Bancroft. "This is Russell's time, but we need everyone's support, for those of you still thinking about the vote, think no more, the answer is simple: A vote for Wayne Thomas Russell is a vote to eliminate the corrupted institutions that play with your lives, it's a shame that Anthony Bancroft, a man sworn to protect Luna Colony and its citizens, turned his back on us all".
The Office of the Governor has refused to issue a statement on the current situation and the rest of his schedule has been cleared until election day.
With only two days to go, who do you think will be the victor? Will Anthony Bancroft manage to cling to his chair as Governor, or will Wayne Thomas Russell pull the most historic upset victory of all time in the Sol System? Please share your thoughts and opinions on the comment section below.
